Maintaining the Inner Self

The discriminating aesthete understands the importance of maintaining a healthy inner life. As the wise man Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. And so the Excelsior Place Man always listens to and acts upon his dreams.

If for example, one would have a recurring dream (say every decade or so) about one’s boyfriend or girlfriend from junior high school, and this dream persisted into one’s forties of fifties, it would be entirely appropriate to shave the entire outer body including eyebrows and head hair, as a way of balancing out the numinous energy acquired in the dream.

If, on the other hand, one had a recurring dream of doing violence to a close family member, the appropriate balancing remedy would be to carry two clean, white cotton handkerchiefs at all times. One, of course, is for personal use. The other is to be handed out to a women or child when in distress. It (almost) goes without saying that once given the handkerchief stays with the recipient and is not to be returned to the giver. This prevents the embarrassment and risk involved with sharing body fluids.
